I used to get really upset that the Bible didn't have pictures. Yes, I had the picture story Bible for kids and things similar, but the real Bible, the ones that were in church never had pictures.
The artist in me wants pictures in everything. Not to skip the words of a story, but to add them.
Pictures aren't worth a thousand words. Pictures have the potential to speak hundreds of thousands of words to one, and a solitary word to another.
I think God had people like me in mind when he left out the pictures of the Bible.
a. Think how confused we would be if there were images to analyze instead of only written doctrine!
b. I know if I saw pictures, I would add my own words to the Bible, this would be disastrous (to say the least.)
c. God is creative, I know this because he made me, giraffes and.... earth. Seeing pictures made by God would awe us to the point of despair towards our own work... like comparing a barbie to a human being.
So, even though there are no pictures (and even though few people would care to wonder why) the Bible is the perfect word of God without images to enhance the point of the book.
I think that maybe, the pictures of the Bible are in heaven. In a giant museum with all of God's art, and the art made for Him by His children. This is all speculation.... but I can dream =]
